Biography

Vicky Paul contemporary abstract artist and intuitive

Vicky Paul is a Scottish contemporary artist whose intuitive practice explores transformation, connection and the subtle energies that shape human experience. Working from her Edinburgh studio, she creates expressive paintings that sit between abstraction and representation, translating emotional and sensory experiences into vibrant, layered works. Through colour, texture and spontaneous mark-making, Vicky creates work that invites contemplation and a deeper connection with both the self and the natural world.

Working intuitively, building each painting through layers of acrylic, mixed media and expressive gesture, she allows the work to emerge organically rather than follow a predetermined outcome. The resulting compositions capture a sense of movement and luminosity, echoing the transient nature of life. Rich colour palettes and energetic surfaces evoke moments of wonder, nostalgia and optimism, encouraging viewers to pause and reconnect with their own experiences of change, transformation and renewal.

Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, Vicky builds her paintings through successive layers of adding and removing paint, to create richly textured surfaces that capture movement and depth. This process is intuitive and responsive, allowing each work to evolve organically and find its own balance between spontaneity and harmony. The resulting work sits between fragility and strength, permanence and transience, where colour and texture are both a visual and tactile language, echoing the layered nature of memory, emotion and experience.

Vicky’s paintings are held in private collections across the UK, USA, Canada, Dubai and Japan. She has exhibited throughout the UK and was selected as Artist in Residence at Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel, Edinburgh in May 2026. In October 2025, her work Elementum, created for The Borders Distillery, was exhibited and sold by Sotheby’s in the Distillers One of One auction, raising £20,000 for charity.

Prior to becoming a professional artist, Vicky ran a successful Arts PR business, and was an award-winning radio presenter, reporting backstage from the MTV VMA’s and interviewing musicians including Madonna, Kylie, and George Michael.

Vicky also creates Soul Energy Portraits, contemporary abstract paintings that capture personal energy rather than likeness. She runs intuitive painting workshops, has presented and produced her podcast How to be SuccesSoul, and is a published author. She is a member of Society of Scottish Artists.
