Thin Places explores transitions, thresholds and the quiet spaces that exist between one state of being and another. These paintings are rooted in the idea that change is not always immediate, but often felt as a subtle shift - a moment of suspension between endings and beginnings.
The collection was inspired by time spent in Orkney, where sites such as the Brough of Birsay and the Stones of Stenness left a lasting emotional imprint. The atmosphere of these places felt charged and otherworldly, an experience found in the Celtic concept of “Thin Places” - locations where the boundary between the physical and the spiritual feels unusually permeable.
This sense of liminality runs through the paintings. The colour palette echoes moody, vast Scottish skies, while unexpected bursts of vibrant colour reflect the energy, emergence and possibility of something beyond. Together, they find balance between stillness and vitality, grounding and uplift - meditations on resilience and inner presence. They speak to the idea that even in periods of uncertainty or darkness, there is always a thread of light available to you.
These paintings offers more than atmosphere, they create contemplative spaces within your home - reminders that transformation is constant, and that within every threshold lies the potential for renewal, clarity and strength.
