Thin Places #1 explores the idea of thresholds - the spaces between what is familiar and what lies just beyond it.
This work was inspired by my experience of Orkney and the distinctive atmosphere of its ancient landscapes, alongside the Celtic concept of ‘thin places’ - locations where the boundary between the ordinary and the unknown dissolves.
Muted, atmospheric tones create a sense of quiet within the painting, while brighter luminous metallic paints and gold leaf introduces energy and possibility.
This paintings does not attempt to recreate the landscape literally. Instead, it translates the experience of being somewhere that feels charged with energy, atmosphere and a sense of something just beyond what can be seen and know to be true.
